Jan Ellen Walker passed away peacefully at her home in Glenmore on July 24. She was the daughter of the late Loretta and Richard “Whitey” Suttles of Harrisburg. She was the beloved wife of Mark Marquette Walker.
Born in Linglestown Pa. in 1952 she attended Central Dauphin high school and later Shippensburg University where she met her future husband Mark. In the late 70’s she moved to Austin Texas, which she loved, but after a bout of homesickness she returned and settled in Glenside and later Downingtown.
Jan was an intensely private person who loathed a fuss. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a modest and unassuming nature. She will also be remembered for her quick wit. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her. An avid reader, particularly British mysteries as well as a talented cook, gardener and music lover. A dead head through and through, a highlight was the legendary 1973 Watkins Glen music festival in upstate New York with the Dead, Allman Brothers, and the Band.
She was preceded in death by older sister Connie McKean of Alexandria Virginia. She is survived by her niece Sue Bruno and husband Sam and daughters Sara and Katie of Birmingham Alabama and nephew Richard McKean of Birmingham Alabama.
No service is planned.
